Our strange attitude to American liberators

How ironic that his letter should appear on the day that the world was commemorating the 60th anniversary of D-Day.

On June 6, 1944, I was part of the crew of HMS Emerald covering the landing of American troops on Omaha Beach. I witnessed the terrible slaughter of thousands of young American soldiers, in full uniform, who sacrificed their lives in the liberation of Europe.
