Disunited States

AS an Irish citizen living in the US, I feel it necessary to point out that 48% of the American voters did not vote for Bush.

They voted for Kerry and his agenda. In my Democratic corner of the US I have met people in recent days who are considering selling up, taking their children and leaving their homeland.

This is an indication of their level of despair. They are embarrassed by their fellow citizens and ashamed of their image on the world stage.

To say that America is divided is accurate; to say there will be bipartisan politics in government in the coming term is naive.

This is a country divided not only by emotions, but by beliefs. Over half are feeling redemption, while 48% are feeling bewildered and betrayed.
