FURTHER to recent publicity in relation to school league tables, I believe that the measurement criteria were flawed. Of course I acknowledge that there are other important functions of a secondary school apart from the academic.

The measurement appears solely to be the number of Leaving Cert pupils who subsequently pursued a college degree course.

Accordingly, a school from which, say, 100 pupils went on to pursue a degree course was ranked above one from which, say, 60 did such a course.
