Tasteless image in another week of murder

THE picture on your front page (Irish Examiner, November 17) showing Defence Minister Willie O’Dea pointing a gun was an absolute disgrace.

Tasteless image in another week of murder

In a week when it became clear that gun crime is out of control on the streets, a picture such as that was in extremely bad taste.

This week has already seen the brutal, cold-blooded murder of three young men in Dublin.

The Government and their under-funded garda force have lost control of the streets and all the Minister for Defence can do is point a gun at a camera.

What is O’Dea and his Government doing to end the murders, the gun crimes and all the other criminality in this country? When are they going to give proper support to the overstretched and under-funded gardaí?

When are they going to fulfil their promise of an extra 2,000 gardaí?

While in Kildare, instead of posing for a tasteless photo, maybe the minister should have asked about some of the local problems which his Government has failed to do anything about.

Issues such as disgraceful overcrowding in schools and the dreadful public transport services that thousands have to use everyday to get to their jobs in Dublin.
