Enforce animal welfare standards abroad

THE pictures from Thailand of the slaughter of millions of chickens being burnt or buried alive in sacks gives a shocking view of globalisation and free trade.

There is now a very justifiable opportunity to ban all meat, eggs, milk and fish products from abroad where the creatures concerned have been reared in conditions below the already low standards of the EU.
