Negligence issue spurs parents into court

IN response to David Corr's article "Insuring our Families' Futures" (Irish Examiner, February 16) I would like to point out that if consultant obstetrician gynaecologists were prepared to admit liability when mistakes were made by them then they could spare parents the "trauma of taking action in the courts" and dramatically cut down on costs for all parties concerned.
Negligence issue spurs parents into court

In my experience, cases are brought to court not, as Mr Corr suggests, because of the inadequate services in the country but because parents strongly believe that negligence has taken place around the birth of their infant baby.

Finally, if crucial medical notes surrounding the births of these infants did not get lost this too would reduce the suffering of these parents that Mr Corr is so concerned about.
