We undermine morale of gardaí at our peril

I REFER to the recent RTE Prime Time programme and subsequent newspaper commentary on the gardaí who took an unfair hammering from some sections of the media.

Are they having a cheap shot at an organisation that doesn’t have equal access to the media? Gardaí are usually reluctant to comment on investigations until their full determination in the courts.

This leaves them most vulnerable when a public relations issue arises. The media can attempt to destroy the image of our fine police force knowing that those they attack are compromised should they attempt to defend themselves. The public should not allow its police force to be left high and dry.
