Wall will protect Israel’s victims of terror

IS Jerry Daly joking, or merely being oblique, in his letter “Israel’s wall of shame” (Irish Examiner, October 6)?

Wall will protect Israel’s victims of terror

Israel's "concrete dividing walls of bigotry and racism", as Mr Daly chooses to call it, is being built in response to the cold-blooded murder of women and children of Israel.

It is interesting to note that the Haifa restaurant where the most recent suicide bombing took place, was jointly owned and managed by Jewish and Arab families.

So much for the "racism and bigotry" charge, a calumny in itself since Israel is the least bigoted and most racially and ethnically diverse society in the Middle East.

Yes, Mr Daly, we should indeed "work on demolishing mental walls of ignorance and intransigence" the ignorance and intransigence of suicide bombers and those who would encourage them, if not directly, then by their cultured indifference to the victims of terror.

Thankfully, in the tranquility of Caherslee, Tralee, Co Kerry, walls are not necessary to protect the citizens as they go about their daily business, but I would hope that if those same innocent Irish men and women were being slaughtered in the streets, they would get more sympathy than Mr Daly can spare for the beleaguered citizens of Israel.
