Anti-family measures tearing society apart

SO Alderman Máirín Quill is the latest public figure to join the parent-bashing brigade (Irish Examiner, January 29).

Anti-family measures tearing society apart

The social fabric of our society is disintegrating at the seams, Máirín, but as a consequence of the anti-parent, anti-child policies of all political parties.

Now that the chickens have come home to roost, the self-same politicians, are seeking a scapegoat. Parents are the soft option.

Máirín is very concerned about children roaming the street at night. She should be. But what kind of life do we expect our children to lead when a mixture of economic and social pressures, anti-family fiscal measures on the part of successive governments, and relentless browbeating by a liberal media, all conspire to undermine the self-esteem of parents, particularly mothers who work full time in the home.

Are we deluding ourselves when we advocate childcare outside the home from birth to teens, from 8am to 6pm, as being for the good of the nation’s children?
