First-time candidate encouraged by result

I REFER to an article (Irish Examiner, February 25) regarding my local election 2004 spending in Waterford, and in particular the suggestion that I polled poorly despite spending twice the amount spent by most candidates on election expenses.

I would like to dispel this notion that I polled badly by citing the following:

1. The local election 2004 was my first foray into politics.
