Some prisoners more equal than others

WHAT a field day British politicians are having, lambasting the US authorities for their detention camp in Guantanamo Bay.

Some prisoners more equal than others

In the House of Commons, speakers referred to this "lamentable denial of democratic rights" and "a slur on western civilisation," while another accused the US of "destroying all trust in democracy."

It is hard to believe that the British authorities have already forgotten the barbed-wire of Long Kesh, where the rounded-up inmates were held for many years without recourse to any form of justice or trial. And now they brazenly blame others for following their example.

Is it any wonder that many people today are appalled to see so-called democratic states apply such undemocratic methods to further their own aims.

The order of the day now being promoted by the more powerful states is don't do as I do: do as I say.
