Let police deal with criminal allegations

AS a Catholic, tenuously ‘hanging in’ to retain my beliefs in the light of the many abuse scandals, I welcome the determination of Archbishop Brady to provide good child protection programmes within the institutions of the Church.

However, it would be a travesty of justice if allegations of criminal practice, such as child abuse, were to be dealt with by the Church. Criminality in all forms is best left to the police.

In the face of dwindling vocations and congregations, it is time for clarity of intent by Church administrators.
