Minister Dempsey fails the syllabus test

WHEN the Minister for Education, Mr Dempsey, entered talks with the teacher unions on the new Junior Cert science syllabus I thought he would decide either to introduce it this September or postpone it until September, 2004.

Minister Dempsey fails the syllabus test

If media reports are correct he has chickened out and left it to each school to decide whether to introduce the new syllabus next September or continue with the old one.

This means that next year’s first-year pupils will end up studying two different courses and sitting two different exams in three years time.

What a mess! Parents should demand a decision now.
