Gravy train still calling to the same old station

A HEADLINE in the Irish Examiner of July 5 put the tin hat on things for me: ‘TDs to get wage hike of €42,000 over five years.’

Gravy train still calling to the same old station

Coupled with the proposed hike for senators, that’s a total of almost €9 million for Oireachtas members. Add to this the increase for retired politicians and the mind boggles.

Not content with these increases they are also going to get increases in expenses, travel, pensions, etc.

It is endless and the only reason these increases are being announced now is because it is going to be three months before the beneficiaries have to appear in public again, and three to four years before they call to our doors looking for our permission to re-board the gravy train.

That infamous luxury vehicle appears to be on an endless trip in a circular motion calling to the same stations and ignoring those outside the loop.

History is repeating itself. I suppose it’s too much to expect that even one TD or senator would have the guts to say: “Enough. I will not take this increase. I owe it to my constituents. Many of them need it more than I do.”
