Banks and borrowers

IT’S time lenders gave some of their profits to support those experiencing financial hardship.

Banks and borrowers

The report by High Court inspectors into National Irish Bank exposed the disgraceful way in which a bank could systematically rip-off customers and the taxpayer over a protracted period.

Sadly, many of us have personal experiences to prove that NIB were not alone. Ill-gotten gains should now be put to better use.

Banks and other lenders should allocate a portion of their huge profits to debt counselling services. In other words, they should invest in the community from which they derive their profitability. In so doing they can begin a long process of redemption.
