Cardinal error

CONGRATULATIONS to Noel Whelan on a superb column on the role of women in the Church (Irish Examiner, April 14). I can almost forgive him his politics! The key point he makes is that cardinals do not have to be priests.

The New Testament gives plenty of reasons why women must be included. Not least is the shocking but obvious fact that Jesus, the founder of the Church, recognised and respected women as his sisters - and welcomed their input.
