Take what you can and give nothing back

I RECENTLY went to see a new movie, Pirates of the Caribbean, starring Johnny Depp.

The movie, which was most enjoyable, featured a line that rang with particular resonance for me. An exchange between two pirates went: “Take what you can and give nothing back.”

In light of the numerous tribunals and political scandals, I felt this line very accurately summed up the state of Irish politics.
