Sculptor’s tutor also off the ‘culture’ list

HAVING read the article headlined ‘Cork 2005’s exclusion of sculptor’s legacy condemned’ (Irish Examiner, April 19), I agree with Colm Murphy about the omission of his father’s work and I wish to point out that my father, MC Hutson, RHA, another Cork artist, has also been excluded.

Sculptor’s tutor also off the ‘culture’ list

The two men, Hutson and Seamus Murphy, were closely associated the latter studying under the former in the (then) School of Art in Emmet Place.

Indeed it was on my father's recommendation that Murphy was awarded the Gibson Bequest Scholarship to travel to Paris to further his studies.
