Mother, I’d love to know what you are like

any chance any of your readers know, or know of, a woman who had a ba girl on June 9, 1954, in Dublin, I would be grateful if they would get in touch either through my e-mail address or through the Irish Examiner.

I was born on that date in a house in either Collins Avenue or Clonliffe Road in Dublin. I was two or three days old when I was handed over to my adopted parents. I only found this out last year, otherwise I would have looked for my natural mother before.

I was registered in my adopted parents' names and re-christened Theresa Marion, so I never realised that I had another name. My birth name, I have just discovered, is Margaret O'Grady.

To my natural mother, I want you to know that I appreciate how heartbreaking it must have been to have to hand over your baby.

However, I fully understand that in the 1950s in Ireland you had no option. I just want to find out what happened to you and I hope that you went on to have a happy life.

I suspect that you were quite young, which must have been hard for you, and which means that you are still relatively young. I was raised in Dublin and am now living in the south of England. I have a two beautiful children a son of 21 and daughter of 26.

I know your Christian name, but will not reveal it. If you want to reply to my e-mail, even if it's only a one-off, I would be grateful. I genuinely want to know what happened to you and what sort of person you are, even if you never take it any further.
