Students need support

I WOULD like to congratulate the Irish Examiner and its education correspondent, Niall Murray, for persistent coverage of the cuts in childcare for vocational training opportunity schemes, Youthreach and Traveller centres.

This cut is one of the meanest and pettiest you could imagine.

The students are dispersed in that many of them are only starting courses now; they do not know each other and it is very hard for them to voice their opposition.

Mr Dempsey claims his priority is disadvantage in education, but he is not following up his words with actions.

A little support for these students now will pay dividends in the long run when they and their children become part of the well-educated workforce that we need.
