Kenny gets it right on benchmarking scam

IN the Irish Examiner of September 20, Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny’s criticism of benchmarking in the public service was compared to Eircom compensation payments.

This is totally unfair.

Why must we always shoot the messenger? While FG may have some current 'issues', I support a review of the benchmarking scam.

Everyone including many of the 200,000 recipients knows it's a scam and one that the post-Celtic Tiger economy can ill afford. Someone needs to stand up against the gross incompetence of benchmarking.

Somehow, I can't see Bertie Ahern souring his beautiful relationship with ICTU general secretary David Begg one of the few people in this country who can orchestrate a hearing with our Taoiseach at an hour's notice.

Can we not at least afford the opposition leader a hearing?
