I WAS taken aback at the uproar in Fine Gael over the election of Diarmuid Scully as mayor of Limerick. The hypocrisy is breathtaking.

We have Cllr Maria Byrne pouring her heart out to the media that she was democratically elected as the Fine Gael nominee when all the while we must endure the abomination of the ‘cosy pact’ selection of mayors on all city councils.

As Corkonian I have nothing but contempt for the position of lord mayor as it currently stands.
