Don’t shoot the messenger

Many people intend to vote No to Nice in order to punish Fianna Fail for the secret cutbacks that have been introduced since the election.

Don’t shoot the messenger

This is very ironic. As I recall, one of the reasons many voted No in the last referendum was as a protest at the European Commission’s interference with our budgetary affairs.

This occurred when the Commission sent a ‘green letter’ to the Minister for Finance, Charlie McCreevy, warning that he was increasing spending and cutting taxes beyond what the country could afford.

Now that the European Commission has been proven right, these same people have found another reason to vote No, as a protest against Charlie

McCreevy! How many times are we going to punish other Europeans for our inability to elect the right government.
