We could do with a recall system

TAKING a leaf out of California’s book, I suggest that we here in Ireland consider introducing in law a recall mechanism which would allow the electorate the opportunity to change a government in mid-term.

I cannot think of a more effective means of dealing with the disillusionment and indifference to politics which seem widespread. It is surely a safety valve which enables people to believe it is they who control not are controlled.

Let us consider then having this mechanism put on the statute books and take some steps to remedy the alienation many feel from the political process.
