THE Redundancy Payments Acts are in urgent need of revision given the resurgence in the scale of redundancy.

Losing it all

A half week’s pay per year of service for workers under 41 is paltry compensation for losing one’s job.

It is far out of line with good practice as freely negotiated by employers and trade unions, and the law needs to be brought into line. Too often we hear of companies where workers made redundant were left waiting for their minimum statutory entitlements.
