Capital of Culture has to clean up its act

WHAT has happened to our world-renowned Cork 2005 European Capital of Culture, or should it be Cork 2005 European Capital of Rubbish.

Capital of Culture has to clean up its act

The other day while out walking I noticed that our beautiful city is covered in piles of broken black refuse bags.

Do we pay our taxes so that we can live in a refuse tip?

It is a disgrace that city management can get away with a stunt like leaving the rubbish uncollected if it isn’t tagged. It should be taken away so as not to expose the public to a serious health risk. The untagged rubbish could be sorted out at a later stage and the culprits prosecuted for littering.

City councillors are far too quiet in the tag-a-bin saga. Every councillor I queried gave the same answer - the city manager is responsible.

Have I fallen asleep while a dictatorship took over our city?

We should pay for rubbish, but if the tag system is too awkward to manage, an alternative should be introduced. Anything is better that putting our health at risk.
