Farmers know all about quality and quantity

I REFER to your leading article (Irish Examiner, June 27) on the EU farming proposals.

I wish to take issue with one point raised by your leader writer: "From now on they (farmers) will be expected to produce for the market, producing only the quantity and quality consumers are willing to buy."

All farmers are constantly aware of the quantities they produce. The basic maxim that too much product gives rise to decreased prices is at the centre of all farming decisions.
