Easy road for McCreevy and the motor insurers
The NCT, though hugely profitable, has had a negligible effect on road safety, whereas the penalty points system, when fairly administered, has saved lives and helped cut the carnage. But it isn’t being fairly administered, through computer deficiencies and a whole raft of additions designed as money spinners for Revenue.
And what business does the insurance industry have trawling through private individuals’ information on police or government files, unless that person has been convicted in the courts of criminal negligence?
Apart from that, government, the courts, the police, the insurance companies and each individual’s civil liberties should be clearly kept miles apart, no matter whose grubby little fingers are caught in the cookie jar.
Speaking of which, has anyone seen Charlie’s biscuit tin lately, the one with all the revenue from the coffers of VRT?
