THE latest smokescreen (pun intended) put up by publicans is that if the Government is serious about the effects of smoking, they should ban it completely.

Liberty or death

That would be an erosion of civil liberties. The way I interpret the Government’s thinking is if somebody wants to smoke themselves to death, then they are free to do so in private. The aim of the new law is to prevent them from smoking others to death and this seems fair enough to me.
