IN THE aftermath of Saturday’s riots in Dublin, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern said that it was known in his constituency on Friday that trouble was likely at the Orange Order march.

However, Justice Minister Michael McDowell is on record as stating that the Government had no prior knowledge of any potential trouble.

Are things now so strained between the coalition parties that the Taoiseach and the Justice Minister don’t communicate anymore?

WHAT did people expect to happen when the Orange Order, bearing banners and Union Jacks, decided to march past the GPO? Our politicians (unsurprisingly, including Justice Minister Michael McDowell) have yet again been struck down with historical amnesia. Despite Ireland’s rapid slide into political complacency, some things will never be accepted. Accept it.
