Glamour can’t hide the menace of alcohol
Our selectivity in examining problem drinking is also tragic. Glamour ought never to mask the raw, heart-rending, dire circumstances that this drug can generate.
Many appear to have a collective denial as to its seriousness and are only too willing to protect further usage through faulty justification. Annually at this time, we hear the same old rhetoric trotted out as to how we should be more ‘responsible’ and ‘sensible.’ It’s tiring, wasteful and largely ineffective.
Where are the public affirmations of effective education and practical intervention? Where is the affirmation and support for those choosing not to take alcohol?
As the promoters, producers and providers of alcohol point the finger of ‘responsibility’ towards the general public, perhaps it would serve us all well if they were to notice the fact that there are fingers pointing back in their directions.
