Abstentionists in London, unelected in Dublin

SINN Féin MPs refuse to represent their constituents in the chamber to which they have been elected, but Bertie Ahern thinks they should be allowed to represent them in the Dail?

Abstentionists in London, unelected in Dublin

What is he thinking of?

Such a move would be a complete travesty of any version of democracy and a real slap in the teeth for those constituents who had not voted for the sitting MP.

It might expedite Sinn Féin’s transition to real democratic politics in Northern Ireland if all parties there who take their seats in Westminster, and thus properly represent their constituents, were granted Dáil speaking rights.
