Danish model shows McCreevy was wrong

CHARLIE McCREEVY used flawed arguments in his rebuke of Fr Sean Healy’s case for a fairer economic society (Irish Examiner, September 13).

Fr Healy, director of CORI, argued for a more equitable system.

Mr McCreevy was incorrect when he stated that these ideas would bankrupt the country particularly as Denmark operates Fr Healy’s type of economic policy very successfully.

Denmark is smaller than Ireland and has a population of more than five million, with a higher standard of living than the Republic.

They have higher social welfare benefits and the gap between higher and lower earners is a lot narrower. It’s time all our citizens were treated equally, as Fr Healy advocated.
