Why aid countries ruled by tyrants?
Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia admitted to massacring 46 of his citizens recently and 36 last June, when they marched on the streets of Addis Ababa protesting at the rigged presidential elections.
Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, despite opposition from President George Bush and others, has decided to make himself president for an unprecedented third term.
His record on human rights is among the worst of any leader in Africa.
All sensible Irish people will agree that dealing with Saddam Hussein and Bin Laden would constitute utter stupidity, but why are we prepared to allow our government to hand Meles and Museveni €70 million of our taxpayers’ cash in the coming year?
In neither country is democracy practised.
Both leaders are dictators, both have blood on their hands, and both have been severely criticised for their callous treatment of their own citizens.
