Lost jobs and pious hopes

INTERESTING to see both the Irish Examiner opinion page and Mary Harney express confidence that the highly skilled employees of LogicaCMG would find work quickly.

Lost jobs and pious hopes

As one of the 80 made redundant when Logica closed its Cork office in the summer of 2002, I can assure you that the vast majority have failed as yet to find employment, and even fewer have found it in the area they are trained in.

Those in the former CMG plant in Cork will be particularly upset as they had no connection with the faltering Logica Mobile Networks before the merger of the two in November last year.

Ms Harney and her Government colleagues are left with the results of an over-dependence on foreign investment that has pulled the rug out from under our feet. Indeed we have a highly skilled workforce with no work to go to.
