What was lord mayor’s car doing in bus lane?

SITTING on a bus in Cork city centre recently I noticed a vehicle illegally parked at the side entrance to Merchants Quay. It bore the number 05-C-1.

What was lord mayor’s car doing in bus lane?

. Unless tradition has been broken and the lord mayor no longer has the privilege of the first vehicle of the year at his disposal, was it just a case of traffic wardens/clampers having finished for the day, or was it the very recognisable number plates that kept them at bay?

What business would the lord mayor or his driver have had at 5.40pm on a Wednesday evening to justify the car being vacated in a bus lane with no driver or passengers, and no flashers on. If I had done the same in my 02 Yaris, would I have been so lucky?
