Motorcycle mania

RECENTLY published facts on road accidents show 223 people have died on our roads this year, comprising 34 pedestrians, 48 passengers, 97 drivers, four cyclists, 38 motorcyclists and two pillion passengers.

Motorcycle mania

This adds up to 145 motor vehicle occupants and 40 motorcycle riders.

Comparing the number of motor vehicles on our roads with a much smaller number of motorcycles, the number of deaths percentage-wise for motorcyclists is far too high.

Revised rules for motorcyclists’ safety are necessary. A separate inside lane, overtaking lines of traffic at high speeds, engines roaring full blast and emitting a trail of noxious gases from twin exhausts are just a few of the issues that need to be addressed.""
