Are you now or have you ever been …

FERGUS FINLAY’S diatribe against Michael McDowell (Irish Examiner, February 25) was at best disingenuous, at worst, McCarthyism itself.

Are you now or have you ever been …

Mr McDowell was right to support the Tánaiste she was speaking for many people who see the organisers of the war protests as nothing more than the fringe left, more concerned with the end of the free market and capitalism, than the fate of the Iraqi people.

For Mr Finlay to describe Mr McDowell's comments as "poisonous and dangerous" is the worst type of McCarthyism. It is scurrilous and low. And to say the same fringe left were not against the last Gulf War is untrue.
