See any red lines on blue skies going forward?

JOHN CODY enquires about the provenance of the phrase “red line issues” in EU negotiations (Irish Examiner letters, June 28).

See any red lines on blue skies going forward?

That’s an interesting question for organisations of all sorts.

The expression is merely one part of the collateral spin-off of recent paradigm shift.

Whether engaging in real blue-sky thinking or more focused future planning, leaders and enablers are pathfinders seeking out an enriched field of metaphor enabling the organisation to articulate in a proactive way its core values. The organisation (going forward) can then be best-positioned to create oven-ready solutions within the context of the its bandwidth, the granularity of the issues it faces and the efflorescence effect of the detergent in the spin cycle.

In other words, some eejit made up the phrase to sound posh, decisive and, uh, proactive.
