Soccer fans should follow GAA example
Soccer is possibly the world’s greatest game and it deserves such a magnificent stage. Let’s just hope that when the games do take place, they embody the unique spirit among rival GAA fans.
Should we expect rival soccer fans to sit beside each other like civilised people? Might losers congratulate the victors in defeat?
Can we expect children to be safe from violent words and deeds? Will we see the stadium respected and intact at the end of the game?
The FAI and soccer fans in Ireland have learned much from this historic development - but perhaps by attending an actual GAA championship game they could learn even more about the friendly and magnanimous spirit in which competitive games can be enjoyed.
