DR PAT WALLACE, director of the National Museum of Ireland, is to be commended for the very positive and sincere oration he gave at the annual Béal na Bláth commemoration in honour of Michael Collins.

He rightly deplored the anglicisation of Ireland and in that he was at one with Michael Collins, who stated quite bluntly after the signing of the Treaty that “the first and most important task is the restoration of the Irish language and until that is done, we are not free”.

Dr Wallace drew special attention to the use of new estate names that are pompous and anglicised.
