TDs shouldn’t play a side guilty of foul play
I think it is highly insulting and very insensitive on Jimmy Deenihan's part to organise such an event in light of what we have heard recently about the ghastly murders of human rights lawyers and people attending funerals in the North.
Imagine what the families of Pat Finucane and Rosemary Nelson must think. Yes, I am sure Jimmy was trying to do the right thing but he obviously didn't think it through.
He organised a football match between our public representatives and the police force in the North whose record has been very badly tarnished in recent times over collusion in the murders of nationalists.
There is also strong evidence that they were involved in the 1974 Dublin and Monaghan bombings.
I know it must be hard for people in the South to understand why there might be such a fuss over a football match, but imagine if Fitzgerald Stadium or Austin Stack Park had to endure what Crossmaglen GAA have had to put up with for years.
Imagine if part of your football or hurling pitch was taken over by British soldiers or the RUC. How would you feel?
This match should not go ahead not yet anyway.
