Ignorant view towards victims of abuse

VICTIMS of abuse involving the Catholic Church are understandably tired of the twist put on their individual tragedies and, while I am not a victim nor do I know any, I am filled with rage regarding the latest degradation of their lives by Frank O’Meara (Irish Examiner letters, October 10).

Ignorant view towards victims of abuse

Does he really believe young people today are so completely ignorant that the crimes of a few sick people would direct their views regarding whether or not they accept this religion, or any?

Does he choose his words with absolute care and honesty when he downgrades the genuine suffering of a number of innocent people to “hate propaganda” and when he upgrades documentaries like States of Fear, etc, to the status of “dramatisations”?

Does he really see “liberalism” as a misinformed concern that young people were being taken away from their families, forced to work in slave-like circumstances and, worse still, beaten and buggered up to 40 years ago and that these “liberal attitudes” do the Church an injustice?

Does our Government “needing” the Catholic Church mean they sit in on Cabinet meetings, read over Government statements or do they just simply vote on legislative change despite not having any mandate to do so?

Does he seriously believe the “Devil” has concocted this whole terrible mess to destroy the Catholic religion?
