DR FR BAIGEL (Irish Examiner letters, June 23) must realise that outrages perpetrated against a people result in their radicalisation.

Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Al Aqsa were born in the ghettos of the West Bank and Gaza. Unfortunately, Israel’s disregard for international law and human rights conventions has contributed in no small part to the growth of these extremists.

Sharon must rein in the hawks of the Likud and Shas parties if he wants a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
