How Dana could be more ‘progressive’

READING David Roberts’ letter headlined ‘We don’t want to live in the old backwater’ (Irish Examiner, October 8), I wonder if Dana would be better off not to support the right to life of the unborn child.

How Dana could be more ‘progressive’

After all, if our European neighbours have no problem in collectively aborting millions of unborn every year, what’s her problem?

She might consider the more progressive attitude of our cross-channel neighbours who are moving toward a ban on bloodsports as proof of being a civilised nation.

Such a ban would undoubtedly heighten the danger to Irish animals as British bloodsports enthusiasts would travel to Ireland in pursuit of their chosen activity.

After all, what are the lives of six or seven thousand unborn children of Irish women compared to the lives of a few rabbits and foxes?

Taking such a progressive stand would also have enhanced her chances of support from the Greens and the Labour Party and the idea of being motivated by a belief in God (if such a being exists) would not be considered an issue.
