Anglers drift away

I WAS amazed to read Bertie Ahern’s attack on the opposition for tarnishing the country’s image and ruining the tourism trade (Irish Examiner, September 6).

I have travelled worldwide salmon fishing. This part of the tourism market is gone in Ireland thanks to Bertie’s counterpart, Pat the Cope Gallagher, who refused to listen to the scientists.

Stop drift netting for this endangered species and maybe the tourists will return to our beautiful rivers. Please listen to the scientists.
