RTÉ’s celebrity chef cheque in poor taste

I FIND few things more irritating on TV than ‘celebrity chefs’. Jamie Oliver, with his ‘mockney’ accent, was my pet hate — until Conrad Gallagher came along.

RTÉ’s celebrity chef cheque in poor taste

But my irritation turned to anger when I read that RTÉ had paid a load of licence payers’ money first to have Gallagher on the Late Late Show and then to air an hour-long programme about him.

Conrad Gallagher is a chef who for some inexplicable reason gets loads of publicity in a Sunday newspaper. Apart from providing the new rich with an excuse to spend a lot of money on food, what else has he done? Nothing!

Are the RTÉ bosses completely insane?

I can find no other reason why they would waste licence payers’ money showing us the life and times of a cook? Is it the way that they used to go to his restaurant to have their taste buds pampered or something? Or are they totally bereft of original ideas?

Still, what more could we expect from the people who came up with a load of rubbish like Celebrity Farm?
