Open door policy

IN his column (Irish Examiner, April 20) Fergus Finlay says, “there is no party in Ireland ... advocating an open-door policy on immigration”.

He is incorrect. Motions passed at the 1998 Sinn Féin Árd Fheis, and therefore policy, include “Sinn Féin will work for the achievement of the optimum position of no restriction on immigration into Ireland”, and “ Sinn Féin deplores all attempts to limit the numbers of political and economic refugees into the country”.

In an advertisement the Socialists Workers Party says: “We oppose immigration controls which are always racist.”
