Put reports on our city in context

MANY reports in the media on statistics about Limerick city are invalid because they do not compare like with like.

Put reports on our city in context

Where was Dublin city’s boundary 55 years ago? Where were Cork and Galway’s city boundaries 55 years ago? All have had a number of boundary extensions in the past 55 years. Limerick has exactly the same city boundary as it did 55 years ago, in spite of the fact that the city is more than twice the size now.

There is hardly a city in the country that hasn’t had a boundary extension in that time, except Limerick. Almost all of Limerick City’s suburbs are under the jurisdiction of Limerick’s and Clare’s county managers. Unless these areas are included in the reports on statistics on Limerick city in future, you many as well leave Limerick out altogether.
