Labour also helping to make Dáil irrelevant
Sentiments I fully agree with.
However, another big contributor to the Dáil’s irrelevance, which Mr Finlay failed to mention, is the shabby deal struck between his party, Labour, and Fianna Fáil earlier this year.
This allowed the Taoiseach to avoid attending the Dáil on Thursdays, so giving him time to attend even more of the functions that your columnist criticises him for.
Therefore, it’s a bit hard to take Mr Finlay’s concerns about lack of accountability in the Dáil seriously.
His colleagues in the Labour Party have contributed much to the unacceptable situation which allows Bertie to escape Dáil scrutiny on Thursdays. After all, their sole aim was to reduce the amount of speaking time allocated to Green, Sinn Féin and independent TDs.
